FAQ
General
-
Why are there two different company names mentioned?
-
Spirited Sisters Inc. is the name of the parent company that manufactures The Original Healing Threads.
-
Can your tops be put on over IVs?
-
The tops have been used with IVs. Usually the IV is put in after the
top has been put on. The fabric, with its Stain Smart additive, allows
anything that may drip out of the IV to bead up and roll off the
garment.
-
Where are these garments made?
-
The Original Healing Threads are proudly made in the USA, in our home state of Massachusetts.
-
Can the Original Healing Threads be worn while IN the hospital?
-
The Healing Threads garments were designed to be worn when being
treated as an out-patient e.g. during radiation or chemotherapy or
going in for an MRI or CT or PET scan, and then leaving the building.
They are incredibly useful to women directly after having a mastectomy. They were also designed as what we call recovery wear; clothing that
can be worn at home while you recover from surgery, a broken bone,
childbirth, etc. They are more comfortable and attractive than pjs, and
more functional as well. You will look better and feel better wearing
them while you recover!
-
How do I maintain my dignity and modesty while undergoing my prescribed medical treatment?
-
First of all, forget about wearing those awful hospital gowns that the
medical personnel ask you to put on. Just say no. Instead, proudly wear
your own Original Healing Threads top! They are comfortable, cozy,
fashionable, and extremely accessible! There is no need to change into
a hospital gown when you arrive at your treatment. The OHTs are so
wonderful and so discreet that you can wear them to your appointment,
receive your treatment, and then leave still wearing it. No need to
change; no need to uncover what does not need to be uncovered; no need
to lose one iota of modesty, and every reason to maintain your dignity
and personal sense of style.

treatments such as chemo, radiation, and post-mastectomy and their use has been expanded to
include anyone with a chest incision such as a heart or lung surgery;
nursing moms; Mohs surgery patients; anyone who has to traverse in

-

-
Four Tops: Casual, Elegant, Grace, Wrap

-
What is the fabric used in the construction of the Original Healing Threads?
-
A polyester micro-fiber, a soft fiber that can be washed and dried in your home washing and drying machines.
-
How many colors are offered?
-
A total of 7 colors are offered, but not all colors are available in all styles and sizes.
- Casual and Elegant are offered in all 8 sizes and all 7 colors
- Wrap is offered in XS-XL in Pink, Beige, Black, Purple, Green, Blue, Brown
- Pants and Break-Away pants are offered in all 8 sizes in black and blue
- Pants and Break-away pants are offered in XS-XL in black, blue, green, beige, brown
- What is the StainSmart fabric?
-
- it is an additive woven into the fabric
- liquids such as blood, benadine, water, juice and activated
charcoal will bead up and roll off the garment without penetrating the
fabric
- if a stain does occur, washing will remove (may require more than one wash)
- How do the access panels stay closed?
-
Through the use of hook and loop closures, akin to Velcro. There are no
metal closures on any of the Healing Threads hospital tops.
-
How do the access panels work to maintain my modesty?
-
- The chest access panels pull down on both sides of the chest. The
entire chest can be exposed by opening the center of the garment or a
little of either side can be exposed, or a lot can be exposed; whatever
needs to be exposed IS exposed and modesty can be maintained by not
exposing every part of the body.
- The back of the garment is totally closed. The upper back can be
exposed for examination or for a stethoscope, but unless necessary, the
lower part of the back need never be exposed
- Why are there pockets in the interior front?
-
These pockets have a variety of uses: they can hold drainage bags the
person may have after chest or breast surgery, they can hold monitors or pumps,
or they can hold keepsakes of the person wearing the garment, such as
worry beads, good luck charms, stress balls, etc.
-
Why are there pockets in the exterior front?
-
There are a variety of reasons. They are a great place to store worry
or rosary beads; a piece of paper and pencil; a book; candy, etc.;
anything you may need to get you through what you are going through or
to give yourself a hug when there is no one around to give you one!
-
What holds the ribbon that holds up the sleeve?
-
A small piece of hook (similar to Velcro) is attached to the end of the ribbon and
the corresponding loop is attached to the sleeve.
-
Why would I need break-away pants?
-
- the break-away feature of the pants allow a little or a lot of the leg to be exposed
- if something on your leg needs attention due to a melanoma, or accident or surgery, etc., only that which needs to be exposed will
be exposed
- no need to take your pants off
- great to go over casts, braces, or any kind of medical device
- much better looking and feeling than cut up jeans or sweat pants
- leg amputees or people in wheelchairs find the fabric softer, more comfortable, and more elegant.
- elastic drawstring has embedded drawstring which will not disappear
into the casing; a much more comfortable and functional waistband; no
binding or pinching and no losing the drawstring!
- Why would I need the regular pants?
-
- many people like the look of an "ensemble" and feel the tops look better with matching or contrasting pants
- a wonderful soft feel and an elastic waistband that allows pants to be pulled up and down easily.
- Do you offer anything for men?
-
Yes, the Casual has been accepted and worn by many men as well as
women, though the men tend to order the beige, brown, or black. The men also wear the pants and break-away pants; as a matter of fact,
Spirited Sisters, Inc. donated break-away pants to the Marines and
soldiers who find themselves with leg injuries from Iraq and
Afghanistan and are taken to Landstuhl Hospital, the USA hospital in
Germany.
-
What are the differences in the tops?
-
- Every standard and plus size top has the same features:
open in front to be put on like a jacket; access panels on each side of
chest; sleeves that roll up and down and are secured using ribbon;
interior and exterior pockets; microfiber soft fabric
- Main difference is access to the wearer's back; the Wrap offers
total access to the back by simply untying the garment or can access
above the waist by separating the closing in the back; all others have
an opening above the waist in the back that opens and closes with soft
hook and loop closures.
- Casual is less "formal" than Elegant
- Elegant is our signature style, the first one we designed
- Grace is longer than any of the others, hitting around the calves
- What is the advantage of the long garment, the Grace?
-
- Grace is for the person who wants total coverage
- The
Grace has the advantage of total shoulder to mid calf coverage for those
religions e.g. such as Muslims or Hacidic Jews or personal preferences
which require such coverage.
- How is the garment best washed?
-
We suggest warm water, delicate cycle, delicate detergent, dry low or dry clean.
We sell Lilly Treatment Robes to medical
facilities. One commercial laundry company has developed a method of cleaning these garments in
their facility that meets the medical establishments' requirements while also meeting our fabric's requirements for washing,
drying, and anti-bacterial properties. Please call our office
(877.647.3900) or e-mail peg@spirited-sisters.com for further
information.
